Best California Farms to Visit With Kids During Harvest
Apples. Pumpkins. Hayrides. Animals. Fall is a great season to bring the little ones to a local farm. These three family-friendly spots featured in Visit California Farms, by Erin Mahoney Harris, are the perfect place to celebrate the season.
Slide Ranch
Muir Beach, CA
Situated on 134 picturesque acres overlooking the bluffs of Muir Beach just half an hour north of San Francisco, Slide Ranch boasts a much more dramatic location than most working farms. Seasonal activities such as family farm days and a harvest celebration give adults the opportunity to join their kids on the ranch.
Tanaka Farms
Irvine, CA
Tanaka Farms is undoubtedly a kid-friendly, one might even say kid-centric, destination. Families can tour the farm in a tractor-drawn wagon, find their way through a corn maze, or even ride pint-sized ATVs and John Deere Gators. It is also one of only a few places in the Los Angeles–Orange County area that gives people the opportunity to actually pick pumpkins from the vine.
Underwood Family Farms
Moorpark, CA
Like many farms targeted toward children, Underwood Family Farms pulls out all the stops and draws huge crowds to seasonal events such as the Fall Harvest Festival. For a modest admission fee, kids can climb on hay pyramids, grassy hills, play structures, and a combine harvester slide and enjoy the spectacle of a menagerie of farm animals.
Marble Mountain Ranch
With plenty of educational activities, a visit to a local farm or ranch is practically a rite of passage for the kids. This is such a great blog. Thank you for posting.
