Friday Foods – Backpacker’s Power Breakfast

When you have a long day and a lot of miles stretching ahead of you, there’s no time for a relaxing, hot breakfast. But this drink recipe from Fork in the Trail is a fast, tasty protein boost to get you started.

Backpacker’s Power Breakfast

Makes 4 servings

2 tablespoons vanilla-flavored instant coffee

1 cup nonfat powdered milk

1/4 cup chocolate protein powder

4 teaspoons honey

At Home

Mix the first three ingredients together, and put them in a zip-top freezer bag. Pack the honey in a leakproof container.

At Camp

For each serving, mix 5 tablespoons breakfast powder, 1 teaspoon honey, and 1 cup of cool or air temperature water in a leakproof bottle. Shake vigorously until the protein powder is dissolved.
