The 10 Essentials for Having Sex in a Tent
As loyal Wilderness Press readers know, February is the month when we share informative tips from one of our very favorite books, Sex in a Tent by Michelle Waitzman. After all, we are a guidebook company and our goal is to guide you in all outdoor activities. Plus, it benefits us to encourage boinking in the backcountry to create new generations of outdoor lovers.
Most hikers are familiar with the “10 Essentials” you should never leave home without in case of an emergency (extra food and water, first aid kid, etc.). This list is slightly different. While nothing here can be classifies as “essential,” these items will make your nighttime activities more comfortable and romantic.
Wet wipes—These little cloths are essential to give you a quick clean in the wilderness. You can get rid of the day’s sweat, sunscreen, and bug spray to make yourself more lovable and lickable in seconds. They’re also good for cleaning up post-romp.
Lip balm—Your skin can take a beating outdoors, and the skin on your lips is particularly delicate. Make sure you protect it during the day with lip balm, and reapply it at night to make your kisses soft and moist.
String lights—A little mood lighting goes a long way for making your tent accommodations romantic. Just be aware that they may illuminate too much…unless you like that sort of thing.
Mints—Oral hygiene is not the biggest priority when camping, but bad breath can really spoil the mood when you go in for a smooch. Toss some mints into your pack so you don’t need to worry about disposing of mouthwash properly.
Birth control—Unless you’re wanting to conceive a backcountry baby, make sure you remember to pack some contraceptives. Safety first, friends!
Sleeping pads—Having a comfortable place to lie (and lay) is key. You can push two sleeping pads together, or if you’re car camping then go all-out and bring the biggest pad or air mattress you can fit inside your tent.
Mating sleeping bags or a big blanket—If your bags zip together, you’ll have a much more comfortable time being intimate. Plus, you get to cuddle together all night afterwards rather than going back into your own sleeping bag.
Chocolate—Eating dark chocolate releases the same chemical in our brains that gets released when we fall in love. If you eat chocolate while you’re already in love, it makes for one great night.
Adult beverages—Just because you’re camping doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a proper date. Toast to your love with some wine or beer out of a camping mug, spirits out of a flask, or non-alcoholic hot chocolate to warm your insides for the night ahead.
Sexy sleepwear—Outdoor clothing is functional, but not very sexy. Surprise your partner by putting on some underwear that hasn’t been worn for the past three days and win their affections all over again.
