If John Muir Were on Instagram
*Snap* How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains! #nofilter Let me just take a moment to post this on Instagram for all my adoring fans to seen once they wake from their slumber. True mountaineers are awake to watch the sun rise and light up the wilderness, so I must share this with those less ambitious.
Boots laced. Food consumed. Rucksack packed. *Snap* The mountains are calling, and I must go. Later, Instagram story followers!
But in which direction shall I travel? Where will my feet take me today? Which mountains shall I traverse, which rivers shall I ford? A ha! A meandering wooded trail! *Snap* The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness. Into the forest I go, then!
These woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises… Just kidding, Instagram fam. I’m not trying to steal my friend Robert Frost’s words. Just making sure you’re paying attention. Keeping you on your literary toes.
*Ping* “Mr. Muir, are you not scared to be out exploring all by yourself? Do you not fear the wild?” Hmm. Few places in this world are more dangerous than home. Fear not, therefore, to try the mountain passes. They will kill care, save you from deadly apathy, set you free, and call forth every faculty into vigorous, enthusiastic action.
Oh shoot. I forgot to tell my office I wasn’t coming into work today. What to do, what to do… *Snap* I am losing precious days. I am degenerating into a machine for making money. I am learning nothing in this trivial world of men. I must break away and get out into the mountains to learn the new. There, that should suffice as an OOO.
Snack break. Summit selfie. Onward down the mountain pass into the Great Unknown.
Oh my, look at the time. I was supposed to meet Teddy for afternoon tea. Let me DM him. Teddy. I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in. Surely you understand.
Sunset. How magnificent! I will sit on this boulder and contemplate life and wait for the sunset to reach the clouds and color the sky. Now! *Snap* The world is big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark.
